Prayer, a powerful tool!

Mark Robinson

  • How do you pray, in silence, out loud or with activity?

We know that almost all of us have found ourselves wanting to pray at some time in our lives.

For the most part it’s been at times of crisis, times when we want to get something from God, either something material or physical or something spiritual. This is how many of us view prayer and yet prayer is deeper than that.

It is when we see that there is a need for a close and abiding relationship with The Almighty, the One in whose image we are made and who is our maker, that we realise the true value of prayer, not just for our own benefit, but for the benefit of others as well.

As people of faith, one of the things we are called to do is hold events, situations, issues and people in prayer, we bring the situation to God, not simply because it is the right thing to do, but even more that that, because it helps in our relationship with God. Even a very brief and hurried look at scripture gives us the idea that God is interested in an abiding relationship, and that God has made the very first steps toward us, God comes to us, and speaks with us and we respond in word and action; part of that response takes the form of prayer.

Prayer then, is very important to me and many, many other Christians. It is vital that we believe and have faith in the power of prayer. This belief and faith is not misplaced, because it is faith in the power of God and also in what God has done for us through Jesus Christ; it is there that we have faith and where our belief lies.
Even at those crucial times, when we don’t know what to say, and we sit, stand or walk in complete silence, God hears us.

“For we do not know how we ought to pray; the Spirit himself pleads with God for us in groans that words cannot express. 27 And God, who sees into our hearts, knows what the thought of the Spirit is; because the Spirit pleads with God on behalf of his people and in accordance with his will.”Romans 8:26-27
