Saturday

  • SILENCE

Today is charged with silence.

Jesus’ death was loud.
His burial was quiet.
The grave is silent.
But there is an urgency of loss
pulsating through this day.

On that Saturday
it would have been quiet.
For only some it was a day of rest,
for followers and secret disciples of Christ
amongst them there was unrest.
There would have been sadness, weeping and sorrow.

But God was with them in their sadness, weeping and sorrow.
In fact God is with us in every circumstance
in our sadness, even as God is with us in our joy.
Unrest is not the end of the story.

Psalm 30:4-5 NRSV says :
Sing praises to the Lord, O you his faithful ones,
and give thanks to his holy name.
For his anger is but for a moment;
his favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may linger for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
