Unclean lips

Mark Robinson

  • How is God calling you?

We are sometimes preoccupied with not having done enough,

with not having achieved or performed in the way we would have liked. At times we are our hardest critics. It’s at times when those very feelings of underachievement challenge us that we may very well feel just as the prophet Isaiah felt when he said ‘Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips. . .’ but in truth, he was not as lost as he had feared, because as unclean as he felt, God chose him to do God’s work.

What does that mean for you and me?

And even before Isaiah, more than 4000 years ago, God called another man of unclean lips to do God’s work. Abraham was called by God out of the land of Ur to the land of Canaan.

There was nothing special about Abraham and Sarah his wife, except that on many more occasion than not, they were obedient to God; and in their lives they had faith in God’s Word.

God used Abraham and Sarah to bring blessings on all people.

What does that mean for you and me?

God continues to call people.

God calls us even with our unclean lips, God calls us in our everyday living not because of who we are, but despite who we are. In fact, God calls us because of who God is. . . God is The One who loves us, who suffers with and for us. God calls us because God touches us and makes those unclean lips whole again.
